A Clinical Study of Etodolac in Orthopaedic Fields




Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Etodolac, a new anti-inflammatory aid analgesic agent..
Total 30 .cases of painful conditions in orthopaedic fields were treated with Etodolac in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Chungnam National University Hospital from November, 1987 to January,1988.
Among 30 cases of painful condition, 10 cases were rheumatiod arthritis, 10 cases were degenerative osteoarthritis and 10 cases were acute pain associated with sprain, strain and operation.
The following results were obtained:
1. In patients with rheumatoid arthritis, pain and morning stiffness were improved in 70%, tenderness
was improved in 80% and pain on motion was improved in 87.5%.
2. In patients with degenerative osteoarthritis, pain was improved in 75%, tenderness was improved i-i
71%, pain on motion was improved in 70% and night pain was improved in 80%.
3. In patients with acute pain, the pain was improved in 80% withi 12 hours.
4. Overall efficacy, more than good was 83.3% by the patients and 90% by the physician.
5. Side effects were seen in 3 patients. Of these 2 cases were indigestion and 1 case was abdominal discom
fort, but these were mild and transient.
It is concluded that in orthopaedic fields Etodolac appears to be a safe and tolerable drug having gooi anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects with few side reactions.
